Suzy Powell returns to Cloudcroft Art Workshops this year, and she has something new for us – the watercolor sketchbook! Suzy always brings such life and fun to the class and she will show you her approach to creating a sketchbook where you can practice, work out ideas, and even keep an illustrated journal.
In Suzy’s words, this is a hands-on workshop using ink and watercolor in a sketchbook. You do not have to know how to draw. We will learn that as we go using the method I use. This class is ideal for both beginners or experienced artists. Keeping a sketchbook is very rewarding, as well as providing you with great ideas for doing paintings to frame.
We will be sketching using ink or pencil, watercolor and gouache painting in our watercolor sketchbooks. We will also spend some time learning how to design a page and add lettering. Hopefully, we can do some plein air sketching (depending on the weather!).
About the Instructor: Suzy has always drawn and doodled, although she never had art in school. In the late 1980’s she started painting as a hobby, first with oil, then pencil/pastels, and then in 1990, watercolor. In 2010 she started doing torn paper collages, and in 2014, oils, and some acrylics. She learned from books, workshops, artist friends, and many hours in her art room. Suzy’s work has been featured in three of North Light’s books, including ‘Incite’, and in three of the Artistic Touch books by Chris Unwin, as well as other publications. She has taught many art workshops, including with Cheap Joe’s, and has taught sketching in Italy in 2018 and 2021. Her philosophy is “It is just paint and water, NOT a matter of life and death, so just have fun with it!”
