Explore the wonderful world of watercolor in this hands-on four-day workshop designed for beginners. We’ll start with the essentials: getting to know your watercolor paper, brushes, paints, and supplies, and then build a foundation of skills through guided exercises and painting.
You’ll create your own watercolor texture and technique chart, explore the basics of the color wheel and color mixing, and practice brushwork, washes, layering, value, and creating texture. Each day will build on the previous lessons as you gain confidence and discover the unique, spontaneous qualities of watercolor.
No previous experience is necessary — just bring your curiosity and a willingness to experiment.
About the Instructor: Rita Carpenter
Come paint, play, and discover the joy of watercolor with Rita Carpenter, a Wisconsin watercolor and mixed-media artist and the founder of Art on the Fly, LLC.
Rita began painting in watercolor in 2008 and quickly fell in love with its beautiful blend of color, movement, and happy surprises. She loves sharing that sense of discovery with her students and creating a relaxed, welcoming environment where everyone can explore their creativity.
Whether you’re brand new to watercolor or simply looking for a fun way to reconnect with your artistic side, Rita will guide you through the basics, encourage you to experiment, and remind you that there are no “mistakes” in watercolor — only opportunities to see where the paint takes you!
