Travel

If you are driving, we’re located between Alamogordo and Artesia on Hwy 82 – about 20 miles east of Alamogordo and 90 miles west of Artesia. We are also about 40 miles down Hwy 244 from Ruidoso. In the center of the mountain village of Cloudcroft, one can easily find the Old Red Brick Schoolhouse, home to the Michael Nivison Public Library, 90 Swallow Place Cloudcroft, NM 88317, where our workshops are held.

If you are flying, the closest airport is the El Paso International Airport – El Paso, TX.

The El Paso International Airport is approximately 110 miles south of Cloudcroft. Take Highway 54 north to Alamogordo. Take the Alamogordo Bypass to the US 70/82 Junction. Proceed on U.S. Highway 82 east to Cloudcroft.

If you want to take a shuttle from the El Paso Airport, Bill Wynn Shuttle Service, L.L.C, is available – billwynnshuttles@gmail.com  575-489-3404.  We will be happy to pick you up in Alamogordo if you let us know a week prior to your workshop when to meet your shuttle.

If you choose for us to pick you up in Alamogordo, you will need to be physically able to do a fair amount of walking, depending upon where you stay. The Village of Cloudcroft is at 8600 ft. elevation. PLEASE check with your doctor if you have a health condition that high altitudes might affect.

We strongly urge all students flying to buy refundable airline tickets in case of workshop cancellations or other unforeseen changes.

Lodging

The are many choices for lodging in Cloudcroft. Please enjoy exploring the options. Many of them offer discounts for the orkshop art students. PLEASE ASK! If you are here without a car, you may wish to select lodging close to the Red Brick School House, 90 Swallow St., where the workshops are held. The Village is approximately 2 mile square but if you are walking a roundtrip, it seems more uphill than downhill! The suggested listings below range from elegant to basic.
