Creatively interpret subjects with color freedom. Discover how to guide the viewer’s eye through your paintings using light and dark pathways while simplifying subjects to create dynamic compositions. Daily painting demonstrations focus on landscapes, figures, florals, or animals.
Ken truly loves teaching, and it shows! With his signature relaxed style, he offers individualized assistance in a positive and gentle manner, helping students identify areas for improvement in their paintings. He provides guidelines that encourage you to interpret painting subjects in your own unique style.
Early in the workshop, he uses black and white ink wash sketches to demonstrate how to simplify images, organize values, identify light sources, and create strong compositions. Key color topics include warm/cool dynamics, complementary/analogous color schemes, and spontaneous color choices. The workshop wraps up with an uplifting critique session.
About the Instructor: Ken Hosmer has been a guest workshop instructor for over 100 art organizations and 23 watercolor societies across the U.S. and in several foreign countries. He has been coming to teach workshops in watercolor and oil painting in Cloudcroft for many years. Ken is passionate about painting and teaching and it shows. His skillful communication guarantees you will learn a lot and enjoy your experience.
