CAW welcomes Anita Louise West to our workshops! Join her in this 5-day workshop to gain a unique perspective of realism with a sense of abstraction. Her fluency in all mediums will guide you to your own expertise in mixed media abstracts. She will explain and simplify your subject, the materials and the methods to extend your abilities to your next level of growth. Anita will instruct a creative approach to realism and different techniques in pastel, oil and acrylic.
On the introductory morning, Anita will review the styles of painting and the 4 stages of the creative process followed by a demonstration in pastel using a realistic subject and painting in a semi-abstract style. Day 2 will focus on acrylics. Day 3 will focus on oil with use of the palette knife and trowel. Day 4 will use acrylic while adding pastel or oil to achieve your desired results. Day 5 will be a demonstration using any 2 media plus collage to create an experimental result. Each afternoon will be at your easel with individualized guidance from Anita and the class will conclude with a daily evaluation.
Anita graduated with a BA in Art from Missouri University and earned a teaching certificate at the graduate level at UMKC. Teaching in public schools in Kansas, California and Texas, she continued to study and paint using oil, watercolor, acrylic and pastel. Landscape painting on location helped to simplify the subject matter and paint without hesitation while studying the changing conditions of weather and light outdoors.
Anita moved to Santa Fe, NM in 1993, She has painted and taught workshops throughout the United States as well as Spain, France and Canada. Anita studied at the Art Students League in New York, NY with Mary Beth Mackenzie, Daniel Greene, Nelson Shanks and Richard Schmid.
