Come prepared to learn and have a great time!
A set of soft pastels which include some earth colors such as umbers, siennas, and ochers. Try to have a dark, middle, and light value of each of your colors. If you have a small set, you may want to enrich it by buying dark and light values of some of the colors in the set. Some good brands of soft pastels are Grumbacker, Rembrandt, Schmenke, Senneilier, Terry Ludwig, or Great American. No oil pastel or hard pastel.
You will need warm toned papers such as light orchre or sienna works well for landscape. Try to have one piece of paper for each day of the workshop. Avoid white paper, very bright colors, and very dark colors. Canson is an inexpensive brand of paper. If you already use a sanded paper such as Uart, that is even better.
You need a drawing board. I suggest a 1/8 inch piece of masonite 18 x 22 inches. You need masking tape to attach the paper to the board.
You need an apron, or smock, or clothes you don’t mind getting marked up.
An easel is desirable. It is best to work vertically with pastel.
A small drawing pad 5 x 8 inches is large enough, and a ball point pen.
